When a man hits his lady friend does he get charged with domestic violence?

As not to many of you know I posted a question similar to this one but since I didn't get an answer that was clear I making it clear... A man invites a lady friend over for some coffee lets say. She begins taunting him and then *POW* he breaks her nose. What does he get charged with? ault? Domestic Violence? What? (This is not from a personal experience it is for a project I have to do)
