Donnie Darko: Visions of Frank created the tangent universe?

In the film donnie darko Frank saves donnie in the beginning because he wanted to give donnie a second chance at living by showing him if he what would have happened if he decided to live,the hallucinations was of frank telling donnie to do things becuz if donnie wouldve chosen to keep living what would have happened is the medication he was on at the beginning of the movie wouldve began to drive him insane and he wouldve hallucinated of frank telling him to burn the mans house down, and kill frank at the ending who also killed his girlfriend it was franks way of showing donnie tht if he were to choose to live alot of poeple would get hurt and his life would go down hill. im sorry if im not good at exlpaining but i hope i helped a little.
